I was thinking about Jesus...and other eminent religious, political and societal figures...and about how they might live behind the scenes...out of the public gaze. What vices, unexpected habits or lifestyle choices they might make. Jesus, of course , in the Christian tradition, was born to die, to repent our sins. This painting depicts him smoking (smoking will kill you). His sacred heart is prominent and he is dressed in purple, the liturgical colour symbolising penance.
