Artwork Description

Acrylic on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

Signed with a certificate of authenticity.

This whimsical portrait depicts my friend Duncan. It looks nothing like Duncan, who is extremely fastidious about his fashion sense and would never be seen in public looking like this. But somehow this is still him. He's the Day guy...because he didn't make the cut to be something else...specifically The night guy. That's another painting.

On another level, this is just a simple representation of a bearded man...maybe he's a farmer or an arborist. Definitely he's honest and trustworthy.

Bold orange and blues set against a black background. Shapes define the outline of small and larger boats. They are motionless at dock. On a black background 2 naked women are almost suspended as they lean in to kiss one another. They are so close, and yet one feels they may not make it. Their nakedness represents their vulnerability. In the top right corner a bird in full flight has escaped it's cage. Scratchy text spells out FREE. Other markings speak to the conflict and the difficulty in the situation.Against a black background three female figures emerge. One is hunched over and in a defensive position, one appears in white lace underwear and adopts a pose suggesting confidence and sensuality, the third wears a white dress; she has flared lace sleeves that might also be interpreted as wings. Text in the upper right corner says METAMORPHOSIS.A central female form glances back over her shoulder. She sees another version of herself, receding into the distance. Meanwhile to the other side, there's a third figure...less well defined, but bathed in a yellow glow. She seems to be moving in the opposite direction. More shadowy figures play in the background...they represent actions and intentions.
