When I see lilies on the water it evokes a sense of spiritual peace to me, like a message to slow down. These lilies are from Lake Ainsworth in the Northern Rivers, where I lived for a while. My intention for this painting was to capture the deep turquoise colours of the water and the beauty of the flower rising up from the flat round leaves that float with such grace on the top of the water.
There are lots of colours and texture creating beautiful movement in the watery background, with simplified imagery of the lilies. A few curved arty lines lead your eye around the artwork with rhythm. A gloss finish with artist varnish gives the colours even more depth.
