Sue Gilmour is a visual artist living by the beach in Cairns. She grew up in East Africa moving between countries and often living in remote wilderness areas of stunning beauty.
Her passion was always art and as her maths and science woeful leaving Africa and going to London to study Fine Art didn't seem so crazy. Her training encompassed painting, printmaking, photography and sculpture. Her etchings were represented at the 'Young Contemporaries " Royal College of Art London.
A visit to Australia brought her 'home'. Sue has worked in textiles, graphics and Interior Design but painting is now her passion.
She is interested in all types of art and keeps numerous visual diaries recording ideas, thumbnail sketches, and text. Sue paints in acrylic, mixed media and oil . Her work starts off with an idea through washes and collage which starts to dictate the direction the work is going. .There is often no final concept until the last few marks. Sometimes its weeks before the final marks are completed . Sue has been a finalist in numerous art awards, represented by Red Hill Gallery ( 11 years -) Lasting Impressions Gallery and the Channon Gallery.
Her work is held in Australia, New Zealand, Kenya, United Kingdom and USA.
I love my work to reach out to people and remind them of their own memories.
Sue's paintings are not about representation but about the emotion they evoke .
