Artwork Description

This artist proof canvas print is professionally made from Sung's original artwork and is supplied ready to hang.

Concept of the artwork:

Lost Identity Bonnie is one of Sung’s ‘Lost Identity’ series.
This series explores her life's journey to find her cultural identity through people, colour, and shapes. It expresses the conflict of cultures, one of which she was born into and the other which she has adopted. Between these two differing cultures she feels she has lost her identity.

Sung paints her friends from various backgrounds wearing a traditional Korean costume called a ‘Han Bok’. Her work is somewhat realistic with an abstract twist. She also expresses her thoughts and emotions through colours and fragmented shapes. When she looks at images of people, she sees shapes made by lights and darkness where she visualises organic lines and forms. She interprets this through gestural lines and the flow of colours in a more abstract manner by placing fragmented organic shapes on somewhat representational subject matters.
