I am a writer by trade, currently working as a Speech Writer for state government after a career as a journalist and broadcaster. Painting allows me to take my creative impulses out of my head and into my hands, no words needed to express myself!
I've had the great good fortune of meeting talented artists Sandy Weule and Kerri Fitzpatrick in our home town and they have both taught me and inspired me to develop my painting practice. Workshops with some of my favourite Australian artists Robert Malherbe, Laura Jones, John Wilson, Cherry Hood and Marie Mansfield have given me valuable lessons and the confidence to keep experimenting and working on my own unique point of view.
I love portraits and the challenge of capturing a likeness on the canvas and I love old things of quality, hand cut crystal, silk scarves, a porcelain tea pot. I'm always moved by the once loved items that end up in op shops, anonymous and humiliated by a $5 price tag. These things tell stories without words and I'd love to capture that.
