Painted after seeing the film "Stranger than Paradise" by Jim Jarmusch . Artist loves his films and this one was a " great discovery " for him.
It was painted immediately after seeing the movie.
This painting has been awarded the prize "Best in Show" in Australian Watercolour Muster, and was exhibited in Fabriano ( Italy ) in May 2021.
Painted in impressionistic "alla prima" style, no pencil sketch before or any studies made before.
Painted on 300 grams Arches 100% cotton paper, cold pressed rough textured. Hand made French paper with deckled edges .
Suggested float framing attached.
Artist is a story teller whether drawing realistic landscape or portrait or a still
life purely from observation. My drawings ( and paintings ) are product of inspiration of the moment.
Basic story, idea, is a starting point which
sometimes just happens and other times is more constructed and revised
before I start. Actual execution is a process which develops as I go. Drawing
is the purest art form, not coming back to revise and make changes. Almost
like a jazz musician improvising on a theme using recognisable notes and
chords but overall piece is usually quite abstract. Idea for this drawing must
have been a product of recent global situation and restrictions to travel. "Going
South" is my response to that."Not from Here" is a series of portraits where I was trying to depict “lost in time” feel and make faces androgynous.
Acrylic on loose canvas, 119 x 80 cm. Partially inspired by Visconti's film Death in Venice, but more by Mahler's Symphony No5 ( used in the film ). Acrylic on loose heavy weight loose canvas with unpainted border if to be put on a stretcher . Matisse acrylic paints.
Painted in 2022 and signed in top right corner.
Intention to be float framed in a box frame, with or without glass . Please check a photo for framing suggestion.
Thin layer of Krylon UV Archival ( Gallery series ) satin varnish has been applied. It can be varnished further would more shiny look be required.
Again, whole series is dedicated to great(est) of them all, F. Goya.
Great influence and a silent mentor.
Painting portraits and hands is a great passion. They are both delicate and also challenging to paint. Hands reveal great deal of the personality and character of the sitter.
Portraits....beautifully difficult to paint.
Variation of a similar portrait I painted in 2020. Acrylic on loose canvas, 117 x 82 cm. Partially inspired by Visconti's film Death in Venice, but more by Mahler's Symphony No5 ( used in the film ) Acrylic on loose heavy weight loose canvas. With unpainted border if to be put on a stretcher . Matisse acrylic paints.
