Sometimes a rare thing happens. I start a painting as per my usual process and I immediately see something in the paint. I have to abandon my plan for the painting and help the face or personality be come defined. That's what happened with this painting. In the first press of paints, it was very clear that a woman with a masquerade mask wanted to be seen. So here she is. As always, I'm fascinated with identity and maybe the fact that she is wearing a mask is symbolic of the fact that we all wear masks to present a desired identity to the world.
