JELLYFISH β Vanessa Arnold
Jellyfish swam in our oceans before dinosaurs roamed the earth.
I was inspired to do this painting after reading Phosphorescence β an inspirational book which urges readers to find the light within β our own phosphorescence.
While swimming at Shelley Beach, Manly, I encountered an amazing experience with a jellyfish the size of a dinner plate. I was awed by such beauty as the gelatinous animal was glowing in its shiny, pearly white body, which I have tried to represent in this painting.
Some jellyfish are clear but others are vibrant colours of yellow, pink, blue and purple. Others are bioluminescent β they glow in the dark. They epitomize freedom. We have all experienced loss of freedom due to Covid but, on the plus side, it has given me time to study and paint this incredible animal, and ponder on my own βlight within.β
