In early Spring thousands of wattle trees burst into bloom with sunny little tufts of yellow. In my local area of southern Australia the city, suburbs and bushland is covered in it, leaving our yards, cars (and my black cat!) covered in yellow dust. It's a wonderfully joyful, bright time of year that warms the heart after a cold winter. It lasts only a couple of weeks, and the blooms don't last well in vases, so I wanted to capture the sensation of bright warmth and exuberant Spring in a way that will last longer in the home. It's a strong yellow, but the balance with muted greens and blues makes this painting surprisingly versatile in a range of settings. The paint wraps around the edges, so if you hang unframed there is a still a finished quality to the piece.
