Artwork Description

Saturn 2019

Saturn is an intense sensual sculptural painting from "Crashing by design" Opening 22nd August 6-8pm
Linden New Arts St. Kilda until 29th September.

Crashing by Design is an upcoming series of new works produced by William Holt, an Australian abstract artist who believes in infusing a deeper sense of authenticity in every artwork. His latest works, which is due to exhibit at the Linden Gallery throughout August and September, features a variety of natural mediums and materials. William’s years of experimentation has evolved, culminating in the creation of his latest series of organic three-dimensional wall reliefs. These new pieces contain the intense textual elements of his previous works, whilst drawing upon the concept of found objects in the Australian natural environment. The inspiration behind these artworks derives from William’s recent move to the coastal regions of South Gippsland. The immense power of the ocean promoted him to incorporate driftwood in his reliefs, symbolising the very human connection we have to the natural world. Furthermore, in the last few years he has frequently visited Central Australia, in which the immense dry riverbeds and vast wilderness motivated a deeper personal connection to the landscape. These two contrasting horizontal environments are both represented in William’s latest work, as whilst they are visually disparate, they equally evoke a totemic quality. The process of interpreting these textural landscapes provided a new dynamic challenge, whilst allowing him to convey a deeper meaning within his recent work. Through exploring this uncharted territory, these walls reliefs held a unique energy that to William, represented the vulnerable fragility that is mutually shared between our natural world and our own humanity.
