My vision was to transform Medusa from a petrifying monster into a dynamic, ever-changing entity.
I chose a vibrant palette to breathe new life into this ancient tale. The serpentine forms swirling at the top, painted in electric blues and greens, represent Medusa's legendary hair - but here, they pulse with vitality rather than threat.
The distorted face at the center is my way of challenging how we perceive identity. I deliberately made the eyes mismatched - one a muted grey-green, the other a striking turquoise - to invite viewers to question their own perceptions.
By blending fleshy tones with abstract shapes, I aimed to blur the line between human and mythical. The geometric elements, like the checkered pattern, contrast with the organic forms to represent the eternal struggle between chaos and order.
I drew inspiration from surrealist masters but infused my work with a contemporary pop art sensibility. My goal was to create a piece that feels both timeless and unmistakably modern.
"Medusa Gordon" is my invitation to viewers to lose themselves in layers of color and form, discovering new interpretations with each look. Through this painting, I hope to spark conversations about identity, transformation, and the enduring power of myth in our modern world.
