TARN 02 depicts a place in lutruwita which is real, but leaves space for imagining. It is a product of the artist’s ever-growing relationship with nature. By immersing herself in the wilderness, the humble human makes her connection with it: it is a relationship of acute awareness and awe.
The landscape is captured with broad, impressionistic layers of colour, which are then overlayed with a lace of thousands of tiny vibrating “beats” that pulse through and between everything, from the undulations of the hill to the stars in the sky.
From afar, the effect is one of veiled beauty, whilst closer examination reveals the energetic traces that intertwine and synthesise to create the long view. The layering of expansive brushstrokes with highly detailed mark-making conveys the simultaneous awesomeness and fragility of the lutruwita wilderness.
