Bluethumb Artists on My Reno Rules
If you caught Channel 7’s My Reno Rules and found yourself pausing the screen to get a closer look at the art on the walls, you’re in good company. We’re proud to share that eleven works by Australian artists from the Bluethumb community featured across both houses in the series, chosen by the show’s designers to bring personality, warmth, and a serious dose of style to each transformed space.
My Reno Rules challenged two teams of four to gut and reimagine a pair of tired 1970s homes into luxury, high-end residences, with rooms scored weekly by design heavyweights Neale Whitaker, Simon Cohen, and Julia Green. The stakes were high, the transformations were stunning, and the art? We think it spoke for itself.
A Look Inside House 2
Mitch & Shaz’s Living Room
Mitch and Shaz set the tone for their entire home with this joyful, light-filled work by Bronwen Hunt. Paper Daisies brings an effortless warmth to the living room; the kind of piece that anchors a space without overpowering it. Bronwen’s work has a quiet confidence that feels right at home in a high-end interior.
Franky & Isaac’s Guest Bedroom
Franky and Isaac’s guest bedroom got a touch of the ethereal with Ivana Gigovic’s Terra Veil. Ivana’s layered, atmospheric work has an almost meditative quality. It made the guest room feel like a genuine retreat rather than an afterthought.
Franky & Isaac’s Master Bedroom
There’s a reason Alpana Rai’s work keeps turning up in beautifully considered interiors. Meandering Through Colour is an expressive, richly coloured piece that brings movement and emotion to Franky and Isaac’s master bedroom. Exactly the energy you want to wake up to.
Mitch & Shaz’s Master Ensuite
Art in the ensuite? When it’s Sharon Harrison’s Fragment 5, absolutely. Mitch and Shaz made a bold and considered choice here. Harrison’s abstract work adds a gallery-like quality to an often-overlooked space, proving that great design leaves no room behind.
Mitch & Shaz’s Study
A study should inspire as much as it functions, and Carrie Matheson’s Freehand Geo #10 does exactly that. The geometric precision of this work brings a focused, creative energy to Mitch and Shaz’s workspace. Structured enough to feel purposeful, expressive enough to spark ideas.
Franky & Isaac’s Hallway
Hallways are a designer’s secret weapon, and Franky and Isaac used theirs wisely. Carrie Matheson appears twice in House 2, and rightly so. Rockpile #6 brings an organic, grounded quality to the transitional space, making the hallway feel like a destination rather than just a thoroughfare.
Mitch & Shaz’s Laundry
Yes, the laundry. Bianca Harrington’s Two Friends II is proof that no room is too humble for original art. Warm, figurative, and full of heart, this piece transforms a purely functional space into something that actually makes you smile, which frankly, is everything you want from a laundry.
Mitch & Shaz’s Powder Room
Small room, big statement. Alex Bridge’s Yellow Box is a bold, confident choice for a powder room. The kind of artwork that stops guests in their tracks and gives them something to talk about over dinner. Mitch and Shaz clearly understand the assignment.
Mitch & Shaz’s Kitchen
Sarah Morrow’s Point Nepean brings a distinctly Australian sensibility to the kitchen. Coastal, calm, and quietly evocative. It’s a reminder that the kitchen is the heart of a home, and deserves art that reflects that.
A Look Inside House 1
Michelle & Emma’s Hallway
Michelle and Emma made an immediate impression with Madeline Ryan’s Alchemy in Shadow greeting visitors from the hallway. Moody, dramatic, and deeply textured, this work sets an unmistakable tone from the moment you step through the door.
Nathan & Julia’s Hallway
Sharon Harrison features twice across the series and her second appearance is just as arresting as the first. Love Death and Monsters is a striking, visceral work that Nathan and Julia placed with real conviction. It’s not a safe choice, and that’s exactly what makes it brilliant.
