The painting is of Short Beach in Hobart. The beach is actually in Sandy Bay but the houses are in Battery Point. The suburbs are separated by Sandy Bay Rivulet - you can see where the Rivulet meets the Bay by the rock wall near the red building on the right-hand side of the painting.
