Artwork Description

Mixed Media on paper

Signed on the front.

I love art that makes me smile while creating. Whenever I create birds with a bit of attitude and using abstract colour, my heart is happy. This Secretary bird is no exception. I come from South Africa where these birds are found and my children reminded me of them recently. They had 'discovered' this bird they liked and thought I might like to paint it. It brought back a flood of memories and that had to be captured in paint.

I particularly like working in acrylic inks as I enjoy the fluidity of them. The mark making adds more character, in my opinion, and using pencil for the eyes just ensured some good detail.
The bold colour choices with the slightly toned background makes this artwork pop, even though it is relatively small. It is sure to be a conversation piece, no matter where it lives in your home.

This artwork is 29.7cm x 21cm and would look beautiful in the right frame.
-It has just under a centimeter border.
- It is created on 300gsm 100%cotton watercolour paper.
-it is signed on the front.
-Frame is not included in this, the pictures are just for illustrative purposes only.
-Certificate of authenticity is included.
- Needs to be framed to look its best.

In Situ photos
In situ photos help to imagine the art in your home. I have used the Artrooms App which allows for sizing but may not be 100% accurate. Where the photos are framed, this is for illustrative purposes only. This artwork does not come with a frame.

Six Eucalypt leaves are in an upright position in the centre of the paper. The background is completely matte black. The leaves have shades of orange, ochre, green, blue and pink. They have various marks on them too. An upright branch of Eucalypt leaves, 6 in total. This is negative painting and so the leaves are colourful in greens, oranges, pinks and blues with some dots on them. The background is a solid matte black. A colourful Cockatoo is in the centre of the paper with her head tilted slightly to the right. She is very colourful with blues, yellows and pinks. Behind her is black lined leaves providing contrast to the colour. The galah is placed slightly to the right and has it's head turned facing the left. The colurs used are red, pink, blue and yellow. It is created in an abstract representational way. Thre are leaves drawn in black pen behind it.
