Created for the invitational 'Spirit of Landscape' exhibition, featuring the Royal Flying Doctor Service at the Alcoa Mandurah Art Gallery, WA, this painting highlights the vital source of life in the vast, Western Australian Outback.
The inspiration for this piece was derived from the notion of the aerial view of the lansdscape as seen by the pilot and passengers aboard the Royal Flying Doctor aeroplane. The rich layering of mark making and collage describes the rugged terrain beneath the numerous crossings of the aircraft. You will see the darker pieces of resin dipped collage papers in the painting, depicting the scrubby plantlife of the bush.
The focal point is the bluey green billabong, the jewel of the Outback, representing the most essential and most important water sources in the arid landscape for farmers and livestock.
