Marker and pencil drawing, 2016.
After completing Tokyo Street Signs I looked for another street full of interesting signs to illustrate. I wanted to draw a Melbourne street, as that is the city I was born in. Degraves Street is a very popular street in the heart of Melbourne's CBD, packed with restaurants and cafes. I also love the beautiful old architecture and wrought iron of the street lamps which contrast the modern neon signs. The artwork captures a view of the street that can't be seen today as the street signs have since changed, with only a few still remaining the same.
The original artwork was destroyed by water. This artwork was done as a commission to re-do the scene, but even better than the original as my skills had developed since then. The commission was from one of the Deans at Melbourne University.
I would like to create more urban scenes of Melbourne in the future.
