This painting was inspired by rare white waratah blooms that I acquired from a grower in the Blue Mountains, not far from my family home. The scuptural shapes of the flowers is enhanced by sunlight and shadows. The deep indigo background that shows up the waratahs so dramatically is symbolic of the Blue Mountains. I chose the black (and green) kangaroo paw as a subtle companion to the waratahs.
