This is an iteration of a piece I created for the 2019 Stencil Art Prize, which I was lucky enough to be selected as a finalist (the original painting is part of a travelling exhibition until mid 2021). Given that entry is open to artists from all over the world, I was pretty chuffed!
Prior to becoming a professional artist, I remember the drudgery of catching public transport to work everyday. It can be a soul destroying experience, which is what I'm trying to convey here as the identical businessmen are studiously ignoring all around them. These days people use digital devices to seperate themselves, but I liked the visual image of hiding behind the newspaper. And of course I couldn't resist another punny title! The edges are painted black, also would look great in a floating frame.
