Artwork Description

In the beginning, God made the World, and the World was good. Then Man came along. But while that may be a negative viewpoint, there is still hope; the forests, oceans and sky renew and resurrect. Knowing that God first forgave us allows me to experience His World with clarity. Ephesians 4:26 states “…Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry”. In this individualistic society, I have learnt forgiveness can be demonstrated, but it often cannot truly be given until we have experienced it ourselves. Once experienced this should encourage us to forgive others-why should this not be shared? There is always a new day. For me, new growth and light has been a symbol of hope; a fresh start, as in so many stories and movies. Forgiveness is like that. In creating this piece, I reflected on the moments after rain when the glow of the sun returns, much like the feeling of taking a breath of air after holding it in anticipation when someone has given their forgiveness. As the natural and human World are so intertwined, the details and layers in the trees and light of my piece are emboldened by the clarity of this new hope. The world cannot be whole without forgiveness. There is still light; we must seek it.

Artist Bio

Hope Aman-Hickey is a Blue Mountains landscape artist using blends of acrylic and watercolour to create artworks which reflect the beautiful power and mystery of the natural world. Inspired by the works of Arthur Boyd and William Robinson, her self-taught pieces capture movement and emotion through blending and use of chiascuro technique. Moving from Manly at just 2yrs of age, her love and longing for the ocean is felt by viewers through her art, enhanced by texture and detailed sections. Hope's subject matter arises from blending memories of her time spent outdoors, and working in natural light environments allows Hope to enhance her skills and practice new styles.
Hope has had works commissioned statewide as well as to the UK and the Netherlands. Her goal is to highlight the importance of taking care of our environment and encourage people to appreciate the world around us by portraying the natural world in ways both pleasing and stimulating.
