The beautiful Coastal Banksia (Banksia Integrifolia) is a favourite amongst artists - including me! I'm constantly inspired by the interesting leaves and flowers found in the Australian bush. This species is prevalent along much of the southern coast of Australia and is a beauty with or without it's 'flower' as these dried pods left on the stems, crack open to release their seeds and regerminate.
This one was captured at Inverloch, on the Bass coast of Victoria - my favourite place to be! With a beautiful blue sky breaking through the branches between the coastal scrub.
I love finding and interpreting the myriad of colours in the foreground and background. The shapely green and silver leaves, as they curl and dry into autumn tones, and ofcourse ... the exquisite pods themselves!
I try to capture subtle nuances of tone and light to describe the form and colour within my paintings, by using generous, confident marks and adequate volume of paint. Sometimes in layers or in a more immediate strokes.
This is a timeless image of the popular Banksia Integrifolia to lift your interior space. Framed in a stylish natural oak box frame.
