Acrylic on linen, ready to hang.
Signed on the back.
This is a large original, one off, abstract painting on canvas ready to hang on your beautiful wall.
There is much for your eyes to explore in this artwork. The dramatic darks and subtle lights in this painting create an otherworldly feel. The background in this painting has a subtle texture and splash of teal, this together with the organic forms drifting daintily across the surface move the eye in and out of focus.
Underwater life thrills me. All the amazing sea-life and the multi-layered landscape beneath the surface is a place of beauty, comfort and discovery. I find these things beautiful and soothing just like creating art.
'Bioluminous Reef Songโ continues in my fascination with the ocean and minutiae of life. It belongs to my โBio Bloomโ Series exploring the sublime beauty of microscopic life, the sea and the natural world. I am deeply inspired by nature and the forces that shape it, especially the ocean.
All the tiny fragments of the universe and patterns of life, and of course I can never escape the Oceans pull on me. I grew in and by the sea. Bioluminescent organisms, magnificent corals, seaweeds, algae, shell forms and all manner of sea creatures from my Snorkelling and rock-pooling around the south coast of Victoria, Australia. All these things I think about and look at when I am creating these paintings.
There is a subtle texture and layered depth to the surface of this piece. Within this painting, I aimed to create an underwater field of magical glowing biomorphic forms and creatures occupying mysterious dark-lit spaces. The intricate forms and the variation in their size and shape moves our eyes attention in and out of focus across the picture plane. I love that your eyes get to explore and discover subtle hidden shapes and patterns within the painted surface, just like underwater diving at a coral reef.
Ultimately my paintings are about connecting to our sense of awe and wonder at the beauty of nature and the miraculous building blocks of all life. The hope is that the paintings trigger a beautiful uplifting and contemplative experience for the viewer. An experience that also reminds us of the beauty in, and of our important relationship to, the fragile natural world.
What I enjoy most about my paintings is they make people smile with a sense of wonderment and feelings of happiness as well as giving their walls interest and intrigue for years to come.
