This artwork expressed the feelings pregnancy bears of having “the world in your hands”. There is a huge responsibility to host and grow a baby. Women are still expected to work and to “have it all” whilst performing one of the biggest tasks on earth: growing a baby.
I am a contemporary indigenous artist and also wanted to express that race plays no part on who can become a mother and that we are all just human. This was expressed in the many skin shades within the piece. The figure growing this baby deserved to be centre stage of this piece.
