There's something captivating about watching angelfish on a coral reef and seeing them sway in a kind of dance.

In Aug 2020 this artwork was awarded a Special Recognition in the 10th Annual Animals Exhibition hosted by the Light, Space, Time Gallery.

On a snorkeling trip off of Fitzroy Island in the Great Barrier Reef I was lucky to see this dance first hand. The lemon coloured coral in perfect harmony with the wonderful body colour of the six banded angelfish. It was the colours that stayed with me and were the inspiration for this loose, dramatic and detailed piece.

After reviewing my many underwater photos I composed this artwork to reflect what I saw. The angelfish are rendered in perfect detail, contrasting with the flowing and lustrous background. When applying the paint in the background I have used salt to move the colour around and this has left a glistening effect in the backdrop. It's another world to see it up close.

This artwork is commanding on a wall and has been created on a solid timber base, which has been boxed out to provide a natural 3cm edge. It is substantial and weighty. Please feel free to message me through Bluethumb if you require more information.
