Wabi Sabi. Transience and imperfection. Beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete".

Collage on Japanese prayer cards. Each card has gold leaf edging with silver flecks all over. Wafers of fine wood sewn with linen thread, pen & ink. On the back of the thick card a prayer is written in Japanese script.
Prayer reads in English
1. Stay happy
2.Work hard
3. Keep smiling
4. Dress up appropriately
5. Be calm
6. Relax
7. Be active
8. Think deeply

Many of my artworks are created from discarded materials and old bits & pieces, sometimes in a state of flux. By recycling and renewing the discarded materials and objects , it can change it's meaning and open up a whole different way of thinking and seeing.

Abstract drawing and collage on Japanese prayer card. Wabi sabi style

All art by Jenny Davis

Capturing the essence of past eras in my paintings. In this piece, a mysterious woman sits wrapped in a dressing gown, her face shrouded in mystery. To enhance a profound sense of antiquity and the passage of time, I use layers of transparent oil glazes to give a deep, aged feeling to the artwork. I want viewers to feel like they're looking at a portrait that was painted centuries ago,. The dark, rich tones add to the overall atmosphere, transporting us to a different time and place. It's like stepping into a time capsule through my artLayers ... worn, torn, ripped, creased, bent, scraped, sanded, stapled, glued, painted, stained and inked. Each scrap of vintage paper just as precious and and poignant as the other. In making this piece, I immersed myself in a process of creative abandonment, combining splashes of red with the mysterious shadows of black ink. I used acrylic paint and ink, letting each stain tell a part of a story veiled beneath the surface, reminiscent of vintage aesthetics.

Sitting beside the Seine river in Asnieres, Paris, France. The creation of order out of chaos and the eventual return to randomness.
The antique collage elements, create a textural play with ink blots and stains that tell a story. It's an abstract embrace of vintage aesthetics that speaks of time’s touch on memories. A contemplative piece that invites the viewer to explore the layers of emotion and history threaded within its fibers.
