March 2022 was when we drove through Wilcannia in western NSW. There had been heavy rain and floods in the north 12 weeks before, this eventually made its way to the Darling River. We were told that 5 weeks before we arrived in Wilcannia the height of the river was in the treetops. It is unusual to see the Darling full. We stayed on the river banks until dark. I painted this image of the river at dusk, capturing the warm afternoon glow through the trees.
