This was a fun photoshoot with a crazy Macaw, meet the exquisite Avatar, named after the movie of the same name due to his rich blue colouring.

I'd been wanting to photograph a macaw forever, reaching out to local breeders and pet shops to no avail, when one day when I was showcasing my bird art in a market stall, along came an old friend who casually mentioned he owned a blue & gold macaw.

Full of spunk and attitude, Avatar was named after the movie due to his rich blue colouring. Avatar is unapolegetically bold and loud, and while it may seem counter intuitive to create a black and white image of a such a vibrant coloured bird, it works and I love it.
