I am lucky to live in my small but beautiful city of Perth & in the evenings it can just glow against the darkness of the flowing Swan River.
I have always been very comfortable painting natural landscapes but have never felt the same level of comfort in painting man made objects and buildings. For a while I have had this picture of my home city Perth in my head and finally I decided it was time to push myself in new directions and give this scene a go.
Not only is this one of the first city-scapes I've ever attempted but it is also the first time i have painted a scene using predominantly palette knives instead of brushes. I love the texture this created and the effect it gave the building lights is amazing. The scene almost glows in some lights.
Each step of this painting was carefully mapped out and the whole piece took me many weeks to complete. The painting is framed especially to suit this piece and took some time to select the right frame. The Italian wood frame is a double frame with both the outer dark frame and the inner gold frame working beautifully together to bring out the shine of those city lights & their reflections on the water.
