The Tarpeian Series is inspired by an ongoing research project, which started many years ago after my first visit to Sydney in 2004. On a recent visit I collected visual information for an intended series of abstract paintings which incorporate the mystery of the Tarpeian way around the Sydney harbour area. In my search to uncover the historical significance of the quarry, I stumbled across the Roman connection, which alluded to the Sabine Legends. It was as if a whole new world had revealed itself to me. My aim is to explore the rock formations of the area and develop a large series of abstract paintings.
