Part of my "Birds Of Australia" Series
The word "Galah" is an English word pronounced ga-lah. It originates from the Yuwaalaraay (Aboriginal language of south east Australia) word gilaa.
Their distinctive pink and grey plumage and bold and loud behaviour make them a familiar sight in the bush and increasingly so in urban areas. They are friendly, playful and intelligent birds that can sometimes act like clowns, this is probably why in Australia if someone is clowning around or acting the fool they can be called a bit of a Galah.
