Spotted Pardalotes (Pardalotus punctatus) are one of the smallest Australian birds. They are just 8-10cm in length and weigh approximately 8 grams. They are beautifully marked, with a reddish chestnut rump and a warm yellow patch under the chin. The crown of the head and the wing and tail feathers are black with strong white spots. There underparts are pale-buff-cinnamon and they have a strong white eyebrow. They nest in horizontal burrows in sandy earth and the nest if lined with shredded bark. Pairs make soft, whistling calls to one another throughout the day, which carry for quite a distance. Their tiny size and jewel like markings make them a favourite with many observers.

Etching size 3 x 3 inches - printed on 6 x 6 inch paper.

This is my original hand-pulled print. The print has been hand-coloured with watercolour paints.

Signature: pencil signature in the margin below print - lower right
Title: 'Pardalote' pencil in the margin below print - centre
