This work has been done while living in Bali for four months. The art supplies are very basic and it’s hard or basically impossible to find the variety of colors and paints we have in Australia. Just mix your own. Lucky I brought my beautiful Caran d’Ache water mixable oil sticks and high quality acrylic flow paint. The colors in the Caran d’Ache set are superb as I hope you can see in this artwork.
There’s quite a bit of collage which is scraped back again in here. The newspaper collage is from the paper bags Bali Buddha, our favorite organic little restaurant/shop bring their shopping in when you order via WhatsApp. Newspaper made in handy carry bags. They come all the way to our village on the motorbike and deliver. We do that once a week as a treat. So newspaper and recycled teabags for collage.
The theme of this work is again about my eco anxiety I have a lot here. They live a life as there’s nothing going on in the world, no pollution no climate change, keep building for tourists as if there is no tomorrow. The big fish/cloud/kite hanging over in the painting is symbolic for life as it was as it is now and in the future. It was and at some places still is the most amazing little fertile island where everything grows so easily and beautifully. The people still have managed to keep their tradition going which is amazing. This is the mixture of feelings I try to bring across in my works, I hope it resonates with the viewer.
