When I began painting Rebirth of the Phoenix I stood in front of the canvas with no particular intention apart from deciding to use colours and techniques that I don’t normally use. I loved the dripping effect that was occurring and worked with that, enhancing it with colour and repeated pattern in small areas. Then the Phoenix started to emerge. I began making plumage with silver and gold leaf until the rebirth was complete. As a mythical bird the Phoenix stands for regeneration, strength and the ability to rise above adversity.
