Artwork Description

Drawing on paper

Signed on the front.

A detailed sketch of a female Powerful Owl - based on a bird in my local area whom I've known & photographed over several years.

The drawing is on tinted paper (proper art paper, acid-free), which makes the white highlights in the feathers really stand out, and the dark tones recede. The face, eyes, beak and head feathers are exquisitely detailed with fine ink pen lines and pencil shading.

It is a sketch mainly of the owl's face and upper body, and in the background are loose diagonal pencil lines, their colour hinting at a bushland forest background.

Against a soft abstract background gradient, from magenta at top to light yellow at the bottom, stands an Australian Crested Pigeon, viewed directly from the front. He has his head down in a dancing pose, his tail up and fanned out across the top half of the painting, and his wings display his beautiful magenta and green feathers. Delicate patterns grace his plumage as he performs his dance for the viewer. Original watercolour painting by Australian wildlife artist Nadya Neklioudova.A realistic study of Powerful Owl feathers, drawn from life by Nadya Neklioudova. On the right is a large wing feather, spanning from the top to the bottom of the artwork. It has dark-brown and white/pale stripes, and a small blue shadow to the right. The other three, arranged on alternating angles, are small and fluffy feathers with a brown and white chevron pattern.A watercolour portrait of a Dingo, by Nadya Neklioudova. The Dingo's natural, earthy ochre colours stand out on the grassy, natural bushland background of olive-green. There is a gentle softness to this painting, the animal's face and eyes are detailed, while the soft fur fades into the environment. In this watercolour, the Rufous Fantail bird is in the middle of the artwork, sitting on her cup-shaped nest woven out of fine grasses and spiderwebs. You can see the top half of the bird with her reddish-brown and black head, white under the chin, and speckled white and black breast. Her folded wings are grey, rump is reddish brown and resting tail is grey with white tips. The nest is on a thin Macadamia tree branch crossing the painting diagonally, and forking into smaller branchlets as it goes. Sage-green and light green leaves seem to wrap protectively around the nesting bird, with one leaf brown. The background is a light green wash with blue-greens, suggesting dappled light in a rainforest.
