About this Painting
Over the Wing is an original abstract work, done on paper as one of a set of 4 small paintings. The paintings were prepared over a dark ground and using wet on wet technique they were produced quite quickly in series. They are influenced by the sea - and give the viewer a high point of vision (from up in the sky). The colours are ones that I love to use and include turquoise, prussian blue, napthol crimson red, white and lime green. Once the painting was complete, it was named "Over the Wing" as it reminded me of being in a small air plane and look out over the coast line as you return to Melbourne from Tasmania - the planes often fly north over the peninsula and then bank around to the west. You get a great view. In this painting you can see the coast line that rises from the lower left, and moves across to the right side of the painting, with the horizon beyond. It gives you the impression you are looking out over the wing.
