This painting was inspired by Petrov-Vodkin’s “Bathing of a Red Horse”, one of the most famous Russian avant garde artworks from the beginning of the 20th century. It was painted between two revolutions in Russia, and art historians still wonder what precisely the artist wanted to say in his work. I think the red horse symbolised the tension and anxiety of this turbulent time. I see a lot of parallels between what happened then and what is happening in Russia today. This painting is my personal response and an attempt to process our times. Artistically, the painting is a study of geometrical forms and colour relationships.
