I think that it might have been Social Studies in Primary School that ignited a love of all things Japanese in the young me. Since then I have surrounded myself with Japanese prints and art, textiles, crockery, bonsai, ikebana and knick knacks collected when I travelled to Japan a few years ago. The Geisha has always fascinated me with her elegance and grace. So self contained I wonder what she actually thinks and feels?
Painted in soft pinks and brilliant red, the background is painted in a shimmering gold over a blue ground. Crackle medium has been applied to some areas of the background to symbolise the ancient Japanese culture and the idea of beauty that can be found in imperfection.
