I painted this during the bushfires earlier this year. Bushfires have been a huge part of our cultural identity growing up in Australia and always serve to highlight how modern Australia fails to acknowledge indigenous people and their traditional practices in interacting with the land and animals. This was one of those paintings that clawed its way out of me, I needed some way to express the surmounting fear and pain within our country on behalf of both the people and animals that were suffering. I can only hope that people are beginning to feel the consequences of climate change and inspired to make the necessary changes to save the earth.
