This piece was inspired by some friends of mine in Beijing China. The first time I visited to work in my teachers tattoo shop, I couldn’t speak any Chinese but I found a group of boys who trained parkour in the city on weekends. Despite the language barrier we became very good friends, and I was so inspired by their sense of physical freedom in the way the could move which in turn inspires a sense of mental freedom. They would break into half built construction sites to climb 50 stories just to prove that they could, and to take cool photos of course. With this painting I wanted to recreate the adrenaline rush and sense of magnitude you get when you’ve done something wonderful and brave. I wanted to paint freedom, elation and possibility.
