Off the Well-Worn Path explores the impact of our childhood memories and the burdens they carry when clearing and leaving behind a home where memories and special moments took place. Focusing on the experience of my mum clearing her childhood home, a place once loved; dust, hoarded possessions and boxes took over and filled the rooms. Cleaning a place that is filled with so many memories, bright and dark, melancholic and vibrant, has tested my mother’s perseverance. Uncovering lost objects, reminiscing about moments from here and there, the series of photographs explores a mother’s perseverance to restore her childhood home to a place of meaning for others. Observing the relationship of the human condition, time, family and place, the body of works seeks to connect the past, inheritance, change, renewal. In remembrance of Eileen Sapikas, 11th of October 1944 - 16th of June 2021.
