large original semi abstract painting featuring a Chinese dragon and geraniums in a pleasing contemporary colour palette.
This work is from a series I have been exploring where I take my still life paintings and deconstruct them, pushing them towards abstraction. The dragon in this work is from my Chinese Ginger Jar collection. If you are familiar with some of my earlier more representational still life paintings you will recognise it, as it's a motif that pops up quite a bit in my work.
In this incarnation, The dragon motif has escaped from the confines of the Ginger jar and literally taken over the composition, the geraniums that were contained in the jar have also been freed. I don't plan my paintings, they unfold in the moment on the canvas, I am aiming for loose and expressive over meticulous and precise.
In a last minute snap decision, I decided the dragon would be more of a fountain rather than a fire breathing monster, I'm a water sign and I don't like looking at fire especially post Bushfires.
Would make a stunning and unusual addition to the wall of your home. Ready to hang unframed, but please select the framing option at check out if you'd like to receive this work framed.
