Artwork Description

This is the second in my Bathers series I began a while back with the artwork 'Swimmer with Cigarette'. For me there is something deeply calming and freeing about this scene, I like the idea of capturing a candid moment of people where they are at peace, where the worries of the world slip away and they just bask in the warmth of the sun and rest their body and mind. Thats yet another part of the other worldly quality i find looking at the landscape of the ocean baths and the people within it .
For me this picture captures that feeling of being free of the burdens of the day to day, the only focus of this dozing bather is the sun, the salt, and to be at rest. Sometimes i think like this person i sleep better in the sun on hard cement with the salt air in my lungs than i do in my own bed.

Artist Bio

I find that my art enables me to express elements of my world that can't necessarily be seen by the naked eye, its an attempt at conveying something a bit intangible. Abstraction is the primary way I communicate my ideas and experiences in art.
The naive and somewhat primitive lines, shapes, colours and textures I use are my attempt at capturing the atmosphere, personality or feeling of a place or person I have encountered in my life, realism or a photograph in my opinion doesn't always capture these elements of the world.
I feel that my art brings these to the surface...it shows the soul of something, somewhere, or someone. Perhaps you will see someone you know within my strange works, maybe even yourself.
