This painting was done from life in my back patio when I lived in Warnambool, it is inspired by one of my favourite flowers as a child, the polyanthus, always appealing to me for their vibrant hues and central yellow eyes, and by herbs and other plants waiting to be planted in my garden.
In the background is a yellow kangaroo paw and a mandarine tree also waiting to be planted, on the table is a trowel and a snail shell, fuschias and other plants from local nurseries and markets can be glimpsed below. on the shelf is a bonsai in a favourite Japanese pot and through the shadecloth walls pink climbing geraniums cover the back fence in front of the neighbours gumtrees.
