This illustration is paired with a Viking Warrior done in black ink Inspired by the TV series and the research done into the culture and beliefs of the Norse people. I included a lot of symbolism in the illustration. This illustration has a border with dragon corner pieces, Helm of Awe, a Norse symbol for protection and victory. The top centre piece symbol is Mjolnir, Thor’s Hammer, the symbol for thunder and lightning.
My main character is a Viking warrior brandishing a war axe, inscribed with Norse symbols. There is a strong reference to Viking compass symbol in the background, which is the “wayfinder” and helper in their adventures and exploration of the world at that time.
The longboat is navigating a fiord which has the dragonhead symbol, that of Helm of Awe, a sign of protection and victory to the explorers and invaders.
