This was inspired by the many photos taken over the years of our hiking adventures in the high plains. My husband and I were so mesmerised by the beautiful billy buttons and other everlasting flowers that we have a section of our garden with flowers of the high plains. Billy Buttons (Craspedia) are also known as “drumsticks” and are in the daisy family. They are a beautiful native Australian plant with a beautiful buttery yellow glow which I have tried to capture in this painting. I also love the rolling plains and distant ranges of the high country.
The colour yellow is often associated with fun, joy and energy … maybe that’s why I feel happy looking at them. I hope this painting brings you a sense of these feelings too!
