About this Curation

Surrealist painters dig deep into the unconscious mind to unlock the power of imagination. The Surrealism movement began in the early 1920s and emphasised on the ideas of chaos and unconscious desires. Surrealist ideas came from its predecessor Dadaism and flourished in Europe between the World Wars.

Notable artists of the modern movement include Max Ernst, Salvador Dalí and Joan Miró.

About the Curator

Sarah Elizabeth Hughes is an artist and curator based in Melbourne. Born in Perth, she completed a Bachelor of Arts from Edith Cowan University (Southwest campus) in her undergraduate studies Sarah focused and developed her practice as a visual artist.

In 2017 Sarah relocated to Melbourne and began her Master's studies in Arts Management at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Since arriving in Melbourne Sarah has continued her practice and become an active member of the arts community.
