A CELEBRATION OF ABSTRACTION is an Oil and mixed media painting on stretched canvas, wired ready to hang.
The artwork has been inspired by Bach concertos, with every brush stroke made directly in response to the notes and rhythms within the music. Â It is all about mark making in response to the sounds of Baroque music.Â
The layers of paint, textures and subtle, harmonious tones highlighted with flashes of colour are a direct reflection of the complexities expressed by the music that accompanied the painting process.
The bursts of red, green and vivid blue represent the crescendo within the music and acted like musical notes dancing on the canvas.
Multiple layers of oil paint, pastels and acrylics were built up, blended, scraped and scratched in stages to create texture, translucence, subtlety and drama that gives this work its unique character. The objective was to channel visually the complexities and character of Baroque music.
As the title suggests, this painting celebrates abstraction in all its forms and brings a complex, yet cheerful atmosphere into the environment it occupies.
