This painting is another chapter from the same rainy trip I describe in "Still Raining (Waterfall)". But this is the silvery side of the cloud's lining.
We raised anchor early one drizzly morning. Creeping out of the creek, we were greeted by dark, wet hills garlanded by feather boas of mist.
I was taken enough by this scene to paint this portrait version after I painted a version in landscape aspect, which I imaginatively called "Rain Lifting, Smith's Creek I”, also available on this website.
I've mentioned elsewhere how painting moving water is difficult without supporting photos and how you often just can't stop and drop in front of a scene with your paintbox (like if it is raining heavily and you’re cruising down the main channel of a waterway).
If any scene is too good to pass up, I fire off the best shots I can on the run and piece it all together later, trusting I can use my artistic skills to help the subject survive. I've squeezed off phone shots from moving vehicles that turned out some of my most treasured subjects.
I am selling limited edition (1 of 100) giclee prints of this painting on 200gsm fine art paper. The dimensions are 91.5cm by 61cm (3 foot by 2 foot).
The original artwork (not available for sale) is oil on wood.
We ship these prints rolled in tubes. This makes shipping significantly cheaper (and less susceptible to damage) and allows you to choose a local specialist for framing.
We can also arrange for this to be printed on premium matte canvas or in different sizes. Please contact us if this is something you’d like us to arrange.
