Doing bird surveys takes me to some stunning places, the birds know the prettiest places are because there's always more food there. I chose this particular spot to draw and carve, because it's in an interesting confluence of gullies. I could create a strong sense of movement across the image and highlight the clear vivid light we have in Australia. The plate took 65 hours to carve, it was a huge undertaking, and I carved both plein air and in the studio.

This print is on Hosho paper, a lovely floaty light weight Japanese paper that is very white in colour. The ink colour is Prussian blue with a little black added.
